Recently I travelled to Germany to compete in the Kiel Woche and the Warnermunde Woche (a Europa cup). Kiel was a shifty venue, with the course right out the front of the club and breeze coming off the land. Finishing up 28th overall was a pleasing result, especially after a difficult regatta in Spain earlier in the year. It was also good validation to show that I had made some progress in the technical areas that most needed improving.
Unfortunately, I fell ill prior to the Warnermunde Woche and had to miss the second day of racing leaving me well out of the points. With no Racing on day 3 (a free extra rest day for me), I was feeling much better and ready to race on day 4. To add insult to injury my vang broke just before the start of the first race that day and after repairing it, I had a lot of distance to make up. I finished strong with a first in the last race to complete my trip away.
Thank you so much to Ron Tough for your support. It wouldn’t be possible for me to make it to these overseas events without your help and the learnings I take from this are priceless moving on towards Nationals and the summer over east.
