Stefan Shircore- Elliott, 2024 January-August report

The start of the year saw us over in Adelaide for the men’s world championships where I finished 50th. Although I was a little disappointed with my finals series, it was pleasing to qualify for gold fleet on my first attempt.

Next up in April was the Palma World Cup, I got quite sick a few days before the event, which led to a poor performance. This was very frustrating after the good lead in I had had.

After returning home for some good training, I headed to Queensland for a training camp with the Australian sailing futures squad, where I placed first in the coaches regatta that was run. I felt like I was sailing really well, but unfortunately my lower back started to bother me too much.

I have been struggling with low back injuries for the last few years but with 2024 being a year with less events on the calendar, we made the difficult decision to not attend Kiel Week, but rather stay home for the remainder of the year and work hard on rehab and strengthening my body.

The rehab has been going well. I have seen improvements over the last few months as well as an overall upward trend in my fitness which is good to see. Looking forward to the summer and getting some good results on the board in 2025.

Thanks for the ongoing support RTYF!
